EVENTS Men's Breakfast This Saturday, September 11 at 8:00am in Fellowship Hall; Cost: $5 (pay at the door) Speaker Jack Lanting has an incredible story concerning his experiences in a Nazi concentration camp during WWII. He accepted Christ in 1950 through a revival at Wealthy Street Baptist Church. Jack has had many difficult life experiences, but has come out of them a changed man with the help of God. His story has touched the hearts of many he has come in contact with. There is much to be learned by hearing about his experiences. You can also expect an amazing full, hot breakfast from Chef Rod. Middle School Parent's Gathering This Sunday, September 12 at 12:45pm in Room 108 We know you have questions, our desire during this gathering is to let you in on the details of what’s happening during the next few months, answer questions, and spend time getting to know each other better over a meal (donations will be accepted). We are not providing childcare but will open room 109 for anyone that you consider old enough to hang out (with limited supervision) while we meet. Pizza and a movie will be provided. New Adult Sunday Class Starting for Couples 45-65 A brand new class, Philadelphian, is looking for friendly couples 45-65 to join them on September 12 at 11:15 in room 130/132. Prodigals Prayer Group This new prayer group will unite our hearts as one to pray our loved ones back to the Savior. Join us this Sunday, September 12, at 8:10am, in room 207. Monday Night Bible Study Monday Night Bible Study begins September 13 at 7:00pm in the Chapel. Our study is “Praise and Prayer for Powerful Living,” a study on the Psalms, written by Becky Reynolds. Foundations Kick-off BBQ Sunday, September 19, 12:30pm to 2:30pm Young married couples (ages 22-32) are invited to a cookout lunch in the backyard of the Yellow House, hosted by the Foundations community. Join us for burgers, hot dogs, some lawn games and lots of fun. Foundations is a community of young marrieds that meets during the third service on Sunday mornings in room 125. Contact Carl. Annual Meeting Plan to attend the Annual Meeting, September 19 at 6:00pm in the Sanctuary. The Calvary Church Board will present an update on the proposed changes to the Calvary Constitution (copies of the proposal are available at the Information Center and online). There will be time allotted for questions. The selection of elders and deacons will also take place. A list of nominated elders and deacons is included in the September Calvary Life. Childcare will be available for birth through sixth grade. For those members unable to attend the meeting, absentee ballots will be available, September 5, at the Information Center or at the receptionist’s desk during office hours. Absentee ballots must be returned to the church office by September 17. SERVING OPPORTUNITIES God Loves Grand Rapids Join us on September 25 for the God Loves GR activities in the New City Church neighborhood. You can register online by clicking GLGR. On Saturday, October 2, our plan is to have a free food give-away at Mary Waters Park (Lafayette and Leonard) for the New City Church neighborhood residents. We will be collecting non-perishable food items, cleaning products and paper products during the month of September at the Donation Corner by the Chapel. Please mark your donations for New City Church. In addition, from 1:30-3:00pm that day at Mary Water Park, we will have a Fall Party for the neighborhood children. Looking for Wedding Coordinators Would you like to facilitate making a Christian couple’s wedding day honoring to the Lord and memorable for the couple? We need Wedding Coordinators to assist pastors and couples with the ceremony. The Wedding Coordinator helps the bride plan the Order of Worship, coordinates the rehearsal and assists prior and during the ceremony. Missions & Outreach Opportunities India Short-term Mission Trip If you are interested in getting more information about a short-term missions building trip to India in January, please join us today, at 4:30pm in room 130-132. Pakistan Disaster Relief During the month of September, you will have the opportunity to help provide food, water, and shelter for the survivors of the recent flooding in Pakistan. Calvary is partnering with Pakistan Mission Society through Peoples International to provide aid to these people. If you would like to donate, please designate Pakistan Disaster Relief on the memo line of your check. Children's Hunger Fund Are you looking for a way to serve and make a real difference in someone’s life? Children’s Hunger Fund is just the answer. You and a team member will visit a family for 16 weeks, bringing them a Food Pak©, but more importantly, sharing Christ with them. Forgotten Man Ministries This month we highlight Forgotten Man Ministries, a community partner whose purpose is to reach inmates with the gospel. Sixteen people from Calvary currently serve at the Kent County jail in some capacity with FMM. Stop at the booth outside of the Calvary Café on Sunday to learn how you can be involved. Jail Ministry Once a month a small group of men enter the Kent County Jail to lead a time of praise, worship and Bible teaching to small groups of men. If you are interested in teaching, sharing a testimony, or providing a time of praise and worship during the service, please consider joining us.
